Animations 1st bachelor
the first animations I had to make in our 1st semester at KASK school of arts were walkcycles. in 5 different assignments a character had to walk from one end of the screen to the other.
The First walkcycle had to be animated with a cut out character. each bodypart was a seperate piece that had to be rearranged for the next frame to be photographed. The walk isn’t amazing due to lack of experience and the angle at which the character is standing make the legs look tangled up when walking. I added a twist to the video by using my hand, adding a bit of story in the process.
This second walkcycle had to be animated on paper. So each frame you see is a separate drawing. I once again added something extra in the form of a gun. I prefer this animation in terms of a believable walk over the previous.
For our Third walkcycle we were allowed to use our previous animation our make a new one and add a background and an extra moving element. I imported my previous video in the software Krita and recolored and altered the character. In the background I added a shooting spaceship. I had a lot of fun using all kinds of brushes in the software to animate the explosions.
Our 4th and 5th walkcycle were joined into one assignment. first you had to animate a character in a looped walk on a moving background then you also had to include 2 cuts to show for example a different angle in the scene. I added 3 cuts 1 from a different angle then an opponent to the orange monster appears and a final cut showing the aftermath of the confrontation. the first shot with the moving background was animated on 25 frames per second to make sure I could make the moving background align as best as possible with the feet of the monster.
As of the time of writing this the evaluation of all my work this semester hasn’t happened yet. In the second semester we will have to make other animations than walkcycles that will be much larger productions.
other animations from my 1st bachelor
During a stop-motion workshop between the semesters I made this animation using an armature made during the workshop. It was nice to finally work with stop-motion again and I learned a lot about materials you can use to make armatures
during a second projectweek in my second semester I made 3 animations focusing on movements of characters. half of the day was spend on preformance lessons where we had to dance and do all kinds of movement exercises. In the second half we had to implement what we learned into cut out animation. I am happy with my result the movement feels very thought out and I was able to add some stop motion and narrative elements.
This project was made together with 3 other students. we had to use a multiplan setup which means we animated with cut out animations on different levels with spaced out glass panes. this was a fun project many artistic ideas came together. Everybody brought completely different elements but it came together in the end to make this project. the teamwork went well and we efficiently used the limited time given.
In the course audio and recording during my 1st semester we had to make an animation using a recording from one of the other students. The audio I chose reminded me of a robot voice so I used this to make a very simple animation.
