Character design: sketchbooks

Character design . traditional art Article

During a long car ride in the summer of 2023 I drew a couple characters in a thin sketchbook. I then filled the book with characters until I had used every page. Below you can find some of my favourites

on each page I drew one character making sure it was completely different from the other designs in the book.
The designs were in black and white using 1 pencil making the process travel friendly.
Mallowdile inspired by crocodiles and marshmallow cookies (summer 2023).
Nathan NASA inspired by a vacation in Orlando Florida (July 2023).
American Pelican inspired by the ‘Uncle Sam’ propaganda character.
Saladmander is the first drawing in the book.
squid guardian
Gitarosaurus is inspired by a drawing I made a decade earlier in 2013-2014.
Based on older designs from previous sketchbooks.
Inspired by Halloween 2023.
These 2 are inspired by watching the movie ‘Mandy’ in the Art academy in Mechelen.
QR-agent is a new drawing of a character I used for a previous project that year.

Apart from these sketches I made a couple more in color in the same time period.
