Short film: Earthling Encounters
In my second semester of my 1st Bachelor at KASK school of arts I mostly worked on this short film. Inspired by close encounters, I created an alien tourist character who is fascinated by human culture but doesn’t fully understand it. This character is a ‘deus ex machina’ in the story when he arrives at a foodstand that has no customers to order local food.
the movie went through many alterations but the core of the 2 characters has always remained. most alterations where made to the surroundings and sound design to bring the world to life and create a reveal when the alien arrives. The boredom of the human character could still use a lot of work to show his situation in a more cinematic way.
this short film was a good experiment to work with analog and digital animation. the alien and his car are digital while the human world is drawn with oil pastels.
Overall I did enjoy working on this project it is nice to have a longer film made completely by me. I worked further on ideas and techniques from past animations from my 1st semester.
