work in progress: Godzilla stop-motion movie (part 1)
Around June 2024 I got fascinated by old TOHO-studios Godzilla movies. Their use of suits and miniatures inspired me for a project I am currently working on.
In September 2024 I started a city maquette spread over a large table and build a Godzilla stop motion figure. Later I added toy cars and a NECA Godzilla 1962 figure to use for stop motion. My self made figure would be used for display during 2 exhibitions by the Art Academy in Mechelen where it would be displayed. one of those exhibitions is around June so that is when this project needs to be completed.
A couple weeks ago I made a first very short film using the maquette in which Godzilla destroyed parts of the city. On these parts I build new buildings.
Each Sunday that I go to the art academy in Mechelen the project gets closer to completion. The next stop-motion using the new city will also be edited with Adobe premiere pro like the last one using the sound library from the Art academy and sound effects and music from the Godzilla movies.
The first stop motion video I made
With this project I am able to combine my passion for animation and physical cardboard projects. I will most likely update this post once the project is finished.
update: A part 2 has been published on this site documenting the end of this project.
